Katy High School has won up yet another impressive victory showing just why the Tigers deserve their status at 9th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 3rd in Texas. In their match against Cinco Ranch (7-2) on Saturday November 2, Katy took an early lead and never looked back.
After over a month off due to injury, Katy’s offense was refreshed with the comeback of junior Rodney Anderson. The running back carried the ball 14 times for 55 yards and two rushing touchdowns. On top of that, Anderson gathered 58 receiving yards including a 55-yard catch for a touchdown.
Guiding his team to a 40-7 victory, Anderson was helped by fellow running back Kyle Porter, who carried the ball 16 times for 75 yards. Also, Manny Mendoza, the kicker, put in four field goals from 41, 43, 51, and 25 yards out and added on four PAT’s to gain 16 points for the Tigers.
Katy’s best aspect of their game, the defense, showed up yet again. Only allowing one touchdown, the Tigers held Cinco Ranch to only 83 total offensive yards. On top of that, Katy forced a fumble and four interceptions. Sy Slater had two of the interceptions, returning one of them for a 35-yard score.
The all-around team effort led Katy to their ninth victory of the season, maintaining their unbeaten status. The Tigers’ last game of the season is on November 8 against Memorial High School. With an undefeated season well within their grasps, Katy will be putting their all into next Friday’s game.
